The vision of Elysian Law wasn’t just about establishing another law firm; it was about creating a new direction in legal support, especially for those entangled in the complications of domestic and family violence.

Nichale is known for her empathy and passion, traits that have defined her career. Raised on the Sunshine Coast, she completed her law degree at Bond University, where she quickly found her calling in criminal law. Her academic years were enriched by her involvement at the Brisbane Youth Advocate Centre and completion of the work placement program at The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
Post-graduation, Nichale advanced her career at ODPP in Rockhampton. There, she assisted in District and Supreme Court trials, gaining expertise in a range of complex cases involving drug trafficking, sexual offences, serious assault offences, and property offences.
After six years, she returned to the Coast to start her family and shifted to the Queensland Police Service as a Senior Prosecutor, where she accumulated extensive court experience in bail applications, sentences, and trials which included domestic and family violence cases.
In 2021, Nichale’s path led her again to criminal defence work, where she was promoted to Senior Associate. Nichale quickly dove into domestic and family violence cases. Nichale appeared in various courts across Queensland, assisting both respondents, aggrieved, and children, with commendable outcomes against the Queensland Police Service. She is extremely passionate about domestic and family violence cases, ensuring the law is used to achieve the true purposes intended.
During this time, Nichale and Laura’s paths crossed at court and slowly the concept of Elysian Law was created. They believe in creating a new type of law firm that focuses on genuinely reducing the stress felt by people during the court process and creating work they can be proud of.
Nichale’s experience is distinguished by her deep understanding of the courts, police, and prosecution. Based on this knowledge, Nichale has invaluable insight into how matters are investigated, charged and presented right the way through to finalisation. This allows her to provide you with a practical and strategic plan from the outset. Alongside this knowledge, she has cultivated valuable contacts within these departments, further enhancing her professional network and capabilities.
Beyond her professional life, she is a dedicated wife and mother, focusing on her children.
Nichale understands that court proceedings place immense stress on both the individual and their families and knows in emotional times, people place great trust in their lawyer regarding very personal and real concerns.
Laura has always had a special interest in domestic and family violence law. Prior to becoming a lawyer, for over 10 years Laura worked within the Queensland Courts in the areas of domestic and family violence, child protection, youth and adult crime. She gained invaluable and strategic knowledge regarding court processes access to justice and advocacy. During this time, Laura was also an accredited mediator and has significant experience as a mediator in commercial settlement conferences, conciliation conferences, and mediation.
Laura began her legal career in commercial litigation, working in-house and at a national firm. This experience equipped her with the skills to manage complex litigation, resolve disputes, and approach matters with a commercial strategy. While working in this space, Laura maintained her interest in domestic and family violence law by providing pro bono legal services and volunteering at community legal centres.
Wanting to return to her passion and skill, she transitioned out of the commercial space, and into criminal defence and family law focusing on domestic and family violence matters. Laura has represented people from various backgrounds, including professionals, members of defence, public service and frontline workers. Whether assisting victims, respondents, family members or people charged with a criminal offence, she provides client’s strategic and compassionate guidance through complex situations.
In the Family Law space, Laura has experience in assisting clients in parenting and financial settlements involving serious allegations of domestic violence. She has experience in complex parenting matters involving high conflict parenting arrangements and relocation applications.
As a criminal defence lawyer, Laura is committed to ensuring fair process and
access to justice. She has represented clients facing serious criminal charges
related to domestic violence and supported victims of crime in navigating police processes and the criminal justice system.
Having experience in family law and criminal defence, Laura provides niche
expertise in matters involving domestic and family violence.
Laura is empathetic, and pragmatic and understands that in hard times, legal costs place extra stress on people which often means they don’t get the quality legal representation they deserve. She strongly believes that legal representation should be accessible and transparent. That is why as a co-founder of Elysian Law, she really believes in our fixed fee structure, and payment plans.
Laura is a busy mum and wife, outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, travelling and music.
